Actress gets prostitution ring leaders arrested

The Chennai police busted a gang of prostitution touts who were luring prospective customers though Facebok and Whatsapp. The gang was busted when one of the film actresses, whose name was being suggested for flesh trade, had lodged a complaint with the police.

Actress Jayalakshmi, who had acted in over 30 films and several TV serials, has been getting messages in the name of relationship dating services from two numbers. The messages asked her if she was interested in flesh trade and was offered anything between Rs 30000 to Rs 3 lakh per night.

Shocked and perturbed by the messages, she approached city police commissioner and lodged a complaint with him. The police laid a trap and arrested Muruga Peruman and Kavi Arasan, who were involved in fixing up flesh trade deals. They were later produced in the court.

These touts build relations with the actresses in the name of relationship dating service and and upload the names of actresses and their images along with their ‘rate’. They were found peddling the name of an actress and were quoting Rs 40 lakh per night. Some 70 names, most of them being actresses, were uploaded. The police collected their whatsapp chats and the images of the actresses from them.

Jayalakshmi, who busted the racket , said she was initially shell-shocked then gathered her wits to lodge a complaint. She said she felt the actresses should not be taken for granted. “We too are normal women with families and should not be seen only as sex objects,” she said.
