For his innumerable fans of course, the ‘sama’ (time/season) was ‘suhana suhana’ (charming/beautiful). Yet, on October 13, during the 22nd programme of Dakshin Dhwani – ‘Sama Hai Suhana Suhana’ at Nritya Forum for Performing Arts, Banjara Hills - it was not just the singers, but an overwhelming section of the audience also sang along and enjoyed the three-hour performance.

Being the death anniversary of the mercurial musician who was not only a playback singer but also an actor, director and a producer in Hindi film industry, the songs were a mix of both joyous and serious numbers.
While five singers of the group took a backseat and confined themselves to two songs each, the audience, gradually warming up took up many more, including a youngster who sang and jived non-stop like a rockstar to Kishore’s evergreen song – ‘Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana’.

A few of the others who were keeping up the old film music tradition in their family circles and that of close friends found a venue on that particular evening too.Purnima Julka, the organiser said, “We wanted a low-profile event as we were unsure of the audience support owing to the Dussehra celebrations. Yet, after a slow start, they came in and gave it their all.

It was a matter of great contentment for the group that it was their second anniversary too, having begun their musical journey on the same day, two years ago. As has been the case, Dakshin Dhwani’s pattern of presentation and programme orientation attracted a few of the audience members who had volunteered to join them in the forthcoming programmes.
