Leading star Pawan Kalyan has announced his decision to quit acting and focus on his political career and serve the people through a press statement released on Tuesday. However, distributor Ramakrishna says that it is a bit too early. “Pawan has three to four years more at the top since his fan following is at its peak and even his on screen charisma still intact, but he chose not to don grease paint again,” says distributor Ramakrishna, who claims that despite duds like ‘Sardar Gabbar Singh’ and ‘Agnyathavasi’, Pawan was ahead of his rivals as he touched the Rs 100 crore business mark even before his arch rivals like Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR could achieve it.
“He became a superstar with the blockbuster ‘Kushi’ and went on to deliver smashing hits like ‘Jalsa’, ‘Gabbar Singh’ and ‘Attarintiki Daredi.” He was the uncrowned king of the Nizam and Andhra regions and even gained a solid position in the Ceded region and was darling of the masses,” Ramakrishna adds. His energetic performance and care-a-damn attitude endeared him to the masses and classes alike and his punchlines against his onscreen rivals were well-received and applauded to cement his ‘larger-than-life image’ onscreen. The scion of Konidela family couldn’t taste success as a director with ‘Johnny’ and gave it up and placed his trust on top directors like Trivikram Srinivas and Harris Shankar who made his career happening and rocking.
“He was commanding the highest pay cheque and producers were willing to pay him because his films had a ready-made market and sold like hot cakes. While top directors were penning powerful roles for him, but Pawan who has different plans chose to hit the arduous political road over the smooth-sailing acting career, a bit too early, ” Ramakrishna concludes. He didn’t work with Rajamouli and V Vinayak although, the later came to close direct him, but things didn’t fall in place.
