Rare case of a govt school becoming preferred destination for students
Closure of admissions is a rarity among government schools. Equally rare is high demand for admissions into these schools. But here is a unique case of the Zilla Parishad High School at Peddapallidisplaying a notice, announcing that admissions to seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th classes in English medium and some Telugu medium sections have been closed for the year 2017-18.
Peddapalli: Closure of admissions is a rarity among government schools.
According to the administration the closure notice was announced due to high number of students approaching the school for admission. And, there are many reasons for this demand for admission in the school. It has achieved 9.8 grade points in SSC public examination results, the highest for any government school. The reputation of the school is so good, that students are opting out of even private schools and seeking admissions in the ZP High School.
The fluency with which the students speak English is amazing and erases the negative mindset about the government schools. Now, even parents of private school students want their children to be admitted in this school. The overwhelming number of admission seekers has forced the administration to declare the closure of admissions. The school has a strength of 700 students and 20 teachers, besides a sprawling playground.
Teachers of the school explain concepts in a lucid way to ensure that the students understand them well. Some of the old students of the school also made it to the IIIT at Basara. Apart from studies, students are also involved in various games like cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball. Head Master Naik said that the school was ranked number one in the district with 9.8 GPA in SSC results.
“Our students also got national scholarships. If additional amenities are provided we will produce good result at the state level.”He pointed out the dilapidated class rooms and very poor flooring in some of the class rooms and sought government support to overcome these problems. One of the students Rishita said that the teaching is excellent. “We are trained in sports and games two days a week.
But, there are problems like the benches not being in proper condition.” She urged the government to provide benches in all class rooms.A private school student Srilata who joined the ZP High School this year said that the interest created in education is very high here. Moreover, textbooks are given free of cost and the mid-day meals provided at the school is excellent.
Teachers here are assuring better results provided the government sanctions 10 more teacher posts and infrastructure amenities like benches in all classrooms. Students at many schools treat education as drudgery, but not the students of the ZP School at Peddapalli.
