Cabbies arrested in Hyderabad techie rape case

Hyderabad: While the prime accused Vedicherlla Sathish, a native of Tummalakunta, Autonagar of Warangal District aged about 30, main accused in the recent gang rape case, lives at Block No. 2, PJR Colony, Yellammabanda at Kukatpally, the second accused, Nemmadi Venkateswar-alu, 28, lives at Block No. 9 in the same colony and originally hails from Baktulapuram village, Penpahad mandal of Nalgonda district.

According to the police, Sathish, before becoming a cab driver had worked as an office boy for a while in Hyderabad. For the last four years, he has been in the same profession. The police added that Sathish had decided to go on a joy ride on Friday night and had picked up his friend Venkateswaralu in his cab.

When the alleged share-cab stopped, and the driver agreed to the fare of Rs 40, she got into the car, said Cyberabad Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand. The driver Sathish’s accomplice, N. Venkateswaralu, posed as a passenger to give credence to the share-cab story. The driver drove to Narsingi and entered the Outer Ring Road.

“The victim did not realise that she was being kidnapped as the men acted as if they did not know the way to Gowlidoddi. They even stopped the cab at a few places and asked for directions. When she finally got suspicious, she called up her friend in Bengaluru and told him what was happening. Sathish then snatched her phone and switched it off and started threatening her,” said Anand.

Near Birla Open Minds School, the car stopped at a deserted mango grove, where the two men raped her. In the mean time, the friend in Bengaluru had alerted his friends in the city who in turn alerted the police. The cops started a search of the Gachibowli and Madahpur area. The woman was dropped at her hostel after agreeing that she would not reveal what had happened. The victim is said to be steady now.
