Karimnagar: A case of honour killing comes to light

A man, Sharifuddin belonging to Goravelli village in Husnabad mandal in the district, allegedly killed his daughter Sashma, a B Tech student, on November 1 over her love affair with a youth of another community.

The same day, Sharifuddin’s wife Rameeza attempted suicide, but survived. Later, in collusion with his wife, he reportedly tried to project it as a suicide. The police, however, got a scent of the murder and took up an investigation and established the father’s complicity in the murder. Frightened by this, Sharifuddin committed on November 4 night.

Sharifuddin was the village secretary of Ramnagar in Bhimadevarpally mandal. His suicide caused a sensation in Goravelli village, besides giving rise to suspicion over Sashma death, as there were injuries on the body. Doctors, who conducted the post-mortem, sent the body parts for forensic examination.

Husnabad CI Sadan Kumar said the forensic report would throw light on whether the student’s death was due to suicide or murder. Sharifuddin allegedly killed Sashma, after she insisted that she would marry the youth. Both the families of lovers were said to have had discussions for several days to find a solution.
