Hyderabad: According to sources, on Friday morning, the custom officials have seized Gold bars worth over Rs 5 crore at the Rajeev Gandhi international airport in Hyderabad and arrested three passengers, who were allegedly trying to smuggle the precious metal. They trio have been learnt to have arrived from Singapore.


The gold bars are 18 in quantity and said to weigh 1 kg each. They were seized at the early hours on Friday from the trio who landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, according to a customs official.

It is also learnt that the trio were on the way to Chennai. According to the police, a good margin of almost 5 lakhs can be gained from 1Kg of Gold carried from Singapore on its resale. As such there are no restrictions in Singapore to carry gold by foreign nationals. This hint has been widely used by many Indians to earn easy money and carry the gold by opting illegal means. This case has been viewed as one such incident, wherein the victims tried to take the gold to Chennai via Hyderabad for its resale. More details awaited.
