Julakanti Pulinder Reddy, a CPM party leader and sarpanch of Narasingulagudem in Munagala of Nalgonda district, was hacked to death by his political rivals at Kodad bypass on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the sarpanch was brutally attacked with lethal weapons by unidentified miscreants while he was travelling in his vehicle. They allegedly axed him to death.
Some passers-by immediately shifted him to the Kodad government hospital. He was referred to a private hospital as he was in critical state. But Pulinder Reddy died on the way to the hospital.
The situation in Narasingulagudem is tense after news of the death of the sarpanch spread. On receipt of the news, villagers and CPM activists rushed to Kodad to pay their last respects to Puilnder.
The police has registered a case of murder and began investigating. The cops suspect political rivalry to be the cause of murder.
Several senior officials camped in the village to ward off trouble.
