A 23-year-old woman who was set ablaze by four miscreants after the victim resisted their rape attempts in a railway quarter at Chilakalguda on Wednesday died at Gandhi hospital while undergoing treatment. She suffered third degree burns.

It may be recalled here that Fathima, a resident of railway quarters in Chilkalguda, went to the abandoned railway quarters after Ishaq, a meat shop worker, invited her for a conversation at around 12.30.

After she reached there, Shakeel, Ishaq and two other men attempted to rape her.

When she resisted their attempts, they sprinkled kerosene on her and set her on fire. On hearing her screams, inmates rushed to douse the flames with water and covered her with blankets. She was rushed to Gandhi hospital where she succumbed to his injuries.

Her grandmother and relatives demanded for the culprits to be hanged. The Chilkalguda police booked a case under Sections 376/511 and 307 of the IPC and arrested four persons yesterday.
