FAIZABAD: In a brutal case of honour killing, a youth was hacked to death in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh allegedly by the mother, brother and a relative of the girl he loved during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The killers chopped up the victim's body and scattered the pieces on the outskirts for wild animals to feast on. However, the accused ran out of luck after the girl herself informed the police about the gory act.

Reports said one Subhash (20) of Chatauna village under Cantonment police station of Basti district was in love with a girl of an adjoining village. The two used to meet on a regular basis but the meetings came under scrutiny after the girl's family got suspicious of her movements. Once the girl was virtually confined to the house, the only way to meet Subhash was at her house. Despite the risk, Subhash decided to visit the girl in her house during the night when the rest of her family was fast asleep. After a few such meetings, Subhash started spending time with the girl and also started entering her house by scaling the boundary wall of her house.

On Sunday night, Subhash went to meet the girl but never came out of the house. On Monday afternoon, the girl approached the local police and informed the cops through her slain lover's uncle about what had happened at her house on Sunday night. Reports said the moment Subhash entered the girl's house by scaling the boundary wall, some of her family members were woken up by the disturbance and her mother caught Subhash red-handed. She subsequently woke up her son Kanhaiya who in turn called in his cousin and the three hacked Subhash to death.

Thereafter, they cut his limbs to small pieces and scattered them in the farm fields on the outskirts of the village. The idea was to have wild animals feast on Subhash's remains so that no evidence of the killing remains.

However, the girl somehow managed to get a word out to Subhash's uncle about what had happened in her house. The latter then approached the in charge of local Cantonment Police station who in turn reached the girl's house along with backup. The police also took along a few influential locals in order to rule out possibilities of themselves being accused of high-handedness by those who committed the gruesome killing.

Once the police laid their hands on the girl's brother Kanhaiya and grilled him, he spilled the beans. At the instance of Kanhaiya, police recovered pieces of Subash's body from the farm fields. Police said they were yet to trace almost half of the victim's body parts and did not rule out possibilities of them having been consumed by wild animals.

Police said the DNA profiling of the victim's body parts would be done in order to establish his identity in the court of law. Police said Kanhaiya had not only confessed to the crime but also led them to the recovery of some of the weapons used in the crime. Police are learnt to have detained the girl's mother and were on the lookout for her relative who had extended a helping hand to the accused during the murder.
