Vemuru (Guntur): A young girl, who was accosted by a 4-member gang, was allegedly gang-raped in the early hours of Saturday. The girl hailing from Kolluru village in Vemuru mandal was in love with a youth of the same village. The duo eloped on Friday night, according to Tenali police sources.


They came to Vemuru railway station to board a train but were accosted by a 4-member gang. One of them claimed to be a military personnel. He told the girl that it was not safe to be in the railway station and took her against her wishes on his scooter to a paddy field in Ravikampadu near the station. Three others, who followed the girl in a separate vehicle, joined him and gang-raped the girl.


Meanwhile, the boy dailed 100 and alerted the police. By the time the police arrived she was sexually abused reportedly by the four. The accused had been identified as R Sudhakar, an army man, A Venkateswara Rao, Gopi and Ratnam, all belonging to Railpeta of Repalle. The police took Sudhakar and Venkateswara Rao into custody while the two others escaped.


The girl has been admitted to the local government hospital for medical examination and is under treatment. The police are investigating the antecedents of the person who claimed to be a military personnel.
