Police Gets Sanjeev Khanna\'s Custody In Sheena Murder Case. A Mumbai court on Friday remanded Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukherjea

Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Friday remanded Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukherjea, arrested in connection with her daughter Sheena Bora's murder, in police custody till August 31.

Arrested in Kolkata two days ago by Mumbai police, Khanna was brought here on Friday on transit remand and produced before the Bandra Magistrate Court.

Public Prosecutor Laxman Rathod said police needed to recover the weapons used to kill Sheena, the vehicle in which she was allegedly taken in and murdered before her body was burnt and dumped in the forests near Pen in Raigad district, adjacent to Mumbai.

Seeking custodial interrogation, Rathod said police wanted to take the accused to where Indrani, her driver Shyam Rai and Khanna allegedly poured petrol on Sheena's body and lit it, besides ascertaining if more people were involved in the killing.

Police, who have slapped charges of murder, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence and more on Khanna, have seized his mobile phone, laptop and passport.

Rathod told the media that Khanna played "an active role in the case along with the other two accused".

After securing his remand, police drove him to the forests near Pen, around 95 km south of where Sheena's body was burnt and dumped on April 24, 2012.

Police found the remains on May 23, 2012.

In a related development, the Sir J.J. Hospital handed over the remains of bones, teeth and nail of Sheena and other evidence recovered from Raigad to police on Friday.

Khanna is the third accused arrested for the murder of Sheena Bora, 24, besides her mother Indrani Mukherjea and driver Shyam Rai, who were nabbed in Mumbai on August 25. They too are in police custody till August 31.

Attempting to unravel the plot involving sleaze, deceit, lies and a probable wealth angle, police have questioned Peter Mukherjea, Indrani's husband and former media tycoon, his son Rahul and the victim's brother Mikhail Bora.

Mikhail was flown from his hometown Guwahati to Mumbai on Friday morning to help in the investigation being overseen by Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria.
