Red sanders godown cop shoots self dead

Tirupati: A police constable, who is posted at the red-sanders godown near Renigunta, shot himself dead on Friday morning sending shockwaves among the police circles. Santosh Kumar (29), who joined the force in 2009, was with the 9th Battalion of APSP Wing.

He was posted at the central warehousing godown where the red-sanders logs seized by the security forces are stacked up near Renigunta in Tirupati. Despite the best efforts of his colleagues, Santosh Kumar could not be saved. Doctors at the SVRR government hospital in Tirupati declared him as brought dead.

Anantapur range DIG K Satya Narayana, Tirupati SP Gopinath Jatti and other senior police officials of the Tirupati urban police wing inspected the spot where the constable shot himself. A probe has been ordered into the incident. Meanwhile, reliable sources in the police department, are of the opinion that Santosh Kumar, who was leading a disturbed personal life took to the extreme step.

It is learnt that Santosh Kumar, who hails from Kasibugga village of Srikakulam district, had an affair with a woman belonging to Vjayawada. The women had lodged a complaint against Santosh Kumar at a local police station in Vijayawada stating that he was harassing her despite her being married. It is alleged that Santosh Kumar, who feared disciplinary action could be initiated against him, had resorted to the suicide.
