Hyderabad: Following suicide by Sainath Vadlakonda, a first year student of CMR Engineering College and a couple of ragging incidents reported from the State, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education has decided to make surprise visits to the university and private colleges to check ragging menace.

As part of this, the TSCHE has convened a meeting on Monday with all the state-run universities registrars and took a stock of the situation on steps being taken to curb ragging on the college campuses.

The TSCHE officials have made it mandatory to the universities and its constituent colleges to setup anti-ragging committees and squads to tackle ragging. The committees will have representatives from managements, senior students, parents of senior students, fresher students and psychologists.

The TSCHE authorities have directed the university officials to ensure that two teachers stay overnight at the student hostels to prevent ragging. It also directed college managements to install CCTV cameras in the colleges and especially in the hostels.

Further in case of private hostels, surveillance should be done by the plainclothesmen.“Stringent action will be taken against students who indulge in ragging,” said a senior official of TSCHE.
