Hyderabad: A gang attempted to break into the State Bank of Hyderabad at Tumkunta in Shamirpet on Tuesday night. Police suspected that the gang could have consisted of five members.

According to police, the offenders managed to cut three iron rods of the window. But as a patrolling party reached the place, they fled leaving behind the tools.

The gang selected the bank as it was located at a secluded place on the outskirts of Shamirpet village. The police launched a manhunt to nab the offenders.

The police were alerted by smoke alarm from the bank and a police party rushed to the spot which is just 500 meters away from the police station. The police recovered iron rods, cutters along with a small domestic gas cylinder used by the offenders.

The police told media that a five member gang could have attempted to rob the bank. It is suspected that two persons in an auto-rickshaw parked outside the police station could have kept a watch on the movement of the cops and alerted the gangsters.
