Hyderabad: It was sheer fear of possible death of the abducted boy that prompted the kidnappers to abandon the victim, according to the LB Nagar police. The police arrested four persons for abducting the seven-year-old son of a city-based businessman for ransom on September 12.

The police arrested Darshanam Sai Krishna (23), resident of LB Nagar, C S Bhanuprakash (26) and C S Manohar (24) of Kurnool and Dondlapally Shivaraj (21) of Mahabubnagar, from Vanasthalipuram. Two of the arrested persons are former employees of a television channel in Hyderabad.

LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqbal on Tuesday briefed the media about the arrest of the accused and said that the prime accused Sai Krishna was the cousin of the complainant Patra Ashish (38), a businessman from LB Nagar. He said on September 11, the accused Manohar and Shivaraj snatched a mobile phone from an unknown person at Tharoor Road in Hayathnagar and used it while committing the offense.

On Saturday (September 12), all the four accused went to the complainant’s house located in the Highway Colony in LB Nagar in a car (original registration number - AP 28 BD 0579) with fake registration number plate AP 28 BE 0609, and kidnapped Yashas Vijay Patra (7).

They made a phone call to the complainant and told him that they had kidnapped his son and demanded Rs 1 crore ransom and made the boy talk to his father to convince him. Later, they forced the boy to consume Pedicloryl syrup in order to make him sleep. As soon as Yashas fell asleep, they put the boy in a travel bag and took him to the house of Manohar at Vanasthalipuram.

As the boy was wrapped in a bag, he could not breathe properly and his health condition became critical, the DCP said. Fearing that the boy would die, the accused persons abandoned the boy on the roadside on Sagar Ring Road, from where he was rescued.The DCP said that basing on the clues provided by the boy and also that the cousin of the complainant who was absconding since the day of offense, the LB Nagar police arrested the four persons from the house of accused Manohar at Vanasthalipuram.

Upon their arrest, the car, the travel bag, syrup and four mobile phones were seized from the place of arrest. The accused, along with the seized material, was later produced before the Second Metropolitan Magistrate in LB Nagar for judicial custody.
