Hyderabad: The City Cyber Crime police on Friday arrested four persons, including two Nigerian nationals, on the charge of luring a 65-year-old woman from Hyderabad and fleeced her of Rs 15.62 lakh by promising to send her a gift.

The accused identified as Igbute Kingsley Ucheka alias Tony alias Kris (31), Igbute Jude Nwabulor (27), all residents of New Delhi and natives of Nigeria and Santosh Kumar alias Suman (28) from Bihar and Dhirendra Kumar alias Dhanush alias Rahul Pandey (26) from Uttar Pradesh. They were arrested in Delhi and brought to Hyderabad on transit remand to be produced in a local court.

The arrested Nigerian nationals confessed that he along with his accomplice, James, hatched a conspiracy to cheat innocent women through matrimonial frauds, said Detective Department Joint Commissioner T Prabhakar Rao.

The Joint Commissioner said the accused Nigerians, posing as prospective grooms by advertising on various matrimonial websites with fictitious names, targeted innocent women, particularly the widows. The Nigerians paid 8 per cent commission to their Indian counterparts. The Joint Commissioner said the accused had gained confidence of the victims by promising expensive gifts.

They also called the women, posing as government officials, and conned them to send money to them towards processing fee. The accused cheated the old of Rs 15.62 lakh. The police invested the case on the complaint by the old woman, the Joint-Commissioner said.

He said that the accused Lewis and Dhirendra were earlier arrested by the Cyber Crime police for hacking Mee-Seva website and attempting to withdraw money its account in Hyderabad.

The police team seized three laptops, Rs1.38 lakh cash, $ 350, Neros (Nigerian Currency) 9,000 and 10 mobile phones from the arrested. Manhunt was launched to arrest the absconding persons, he added.
