The police managed to recover 13 vehicles out of 35, which were stolen at several place across the country. During the survey conducted by the city police in November, the police learnt that some vehicle lifting offenders were operating in the city. The police conducted an in-depth investigation after registering a suo motu case.

The police learnt that Sangepu Chakradhar alias Vamsi Krishna alias Mongara Krishna Kishore alias P Muralidhar (38), from Ranga Reddy, was heading the gang. He recruited around 20 people who operated from

Mumbai, Delhi and Pune and stole cars and delivered it to Hyderabad for resale. “On detailed inquiry, it was found that Chakradhar was a regular offender, arrested by the CCS police in 2009 for stealing 65 cars and selling them using forged documents,” said Additional Commissioner (Crimes and SIT) Swathi Lakra.

Following Chakradhar’s detention, his associates, P Shiva (30) of Tirupati, Vijay Naseebchand Dhaman (28) and Tanveer Kasam Bhaagwan (27) of Pune were taken into custody and it was also found that two gang members G Ratna Kishore (35) and K Srinivasa Rao (34) were serving imprisonment in different cases, the officer said.

The Additional Commissioner added that the accused Chakradhar managed to buy the cars damaged in accidents at various places. On receiving the original documents, his gang stole cars with similar specifications of the purchased damaged cars.

Further, they replaced the engine and chassis of the stolen car with the damaged car and registered the cars with the RTA and sold them. The gang also mortgaged nine cars stolen at Pune, Mumbai, Noida and Gujarat and obtained Rs 45 lakh loan from a finance firm in Visakhapatnam.

Efforts are on to nab the absconding and to identify the owners of these cars, the officer added.
