Outlawed Maoists and the special armed police personnel exchanged fire in Ginnela forest area under the agency area of Araku mandal during the early hours on Friday. Visakhapatnam: Outlawed Maoists and the special armed police personnel exchanged fire in Ginnela forest area under the agency area of Araku mandal during the early hours on Friday.

The police recovered some kit bags from the spot. Visakhpatnam district SP Dr Koya Praveen said the exchange of fire took place at Ginnela forest area around 2 AM.

Stating that there were no causalities on either side, the SP said during normal course of combing operations the police asked Maoists to surrender upon spotting them in the area.

However, he said, they had opened fire this time which was retaliated by police. Police official refrained from mentioning the number of Maoists they had spotted pointing out that they could not see anything in the night as it was pitch dark.
