Hyderabad: The city police on Sunday busted a cricket betting racket and arrested six persons and seized 18 mobile phones, Rs 20,000 cash along with a TV and other peripherals.

Oncredible information, the West Zone Task Force team raided a house at Bahadurpura and arrested Mukesh Sharma alias Pappu, Md Azar and Prashanth Sharma, Vijay, Neeraj, Asifullah Khan, Hemanth Mishra and Mahesh Taneji Rao, all residents of Hyderabad, for organising the betting.

The bets were being placed on a match between Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder during the ongoing Big Bash League in Australia. The police said that accused Mukesh who runs an artificial jewellery shop at Abids, had been organising betting on cricket matches.
He was arrested by the Charminar police twice earlier on the same charges. On release from jail, he met Vijay, Neeraj, Azar, Prashanth Sharma and Asifulla Khan and formed a gang to organise betting. They employed Hemanth Mishra and Mahesh Taneji Rao to collect money from punters.
The arrested accused and the seized property had been handed over to the Bahadurpura police for further action, the task force police said.
