Sangareddy: The funds allotted by the State government for procuring farm equipment have allegedly been diverted to accounts of a number of individuals and companies in Medak district. District Agriculcture Joint Director Hukya Naik has lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.

The police confirmed that Manayya, alias Manikyam, computer operator working in Agriculture Department for last eight years, was taken into custody for interrogation. Naik, in his complaint, said funds to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore was allegedly diverted to accounts of a number of individuals and companies.

The police were alerted after the officials had found that cheques were missing for over a month. Officials from headquarters arrived and probed into the issue. Sangareddy rural sub-insepctor Sivalingam said that a case had been booked and investigation was on.

Manayya, the police said, explained that for the past few years he had been working for a well-known automobile company, selling their cars for commission. This way he claimed to have earned a reward of Rs 4.90 crore by the company by selling over 100 cars.

He said that a reward amount was deposited in his account and only to claim that amount he utilised the government funds amounting to Rs 1.3 crore.
