Hyderabad: A goldsmith was stabbed by a private financier following an argument with his realtor friend over repayment of debts and the irregular interest rates charged by his friend. The incident took place at Nacharam on Saturday night.

Nacharam Inspector N Pravinder Rao said M Giri (45), a gold smith, had taken a hand loan of Rs 30 lakh from his realtor friend Kumar Yadav (45) about five years ago on several occasions. For some time Giri paid interest regularly, but recently stopped paying interest and started avoiding his friend.

On Sunday, Giri visited Kumar’s office in Nacharam, where the duo entered in a heated argument over unusual interest rate charged. Provoked by the argument, Kumar stabbed Giri with a knife in his stomach. Giri has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment and his condition is stable. The accused has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder and has been remanded on Monday, the Inspector said.
