Fake call centre busted in Banjara Hills
The Market Intelligence Wing (MIW) police of Central Crime Station busted a call center racket that was cheating innocent people by luring them with fake lottery offers. Hyderabad: The Market Intelligence Wing (MIW) police of Central Crime Station busted a call center racket that was cheating innocent people by luring them with fake lottery offers. Acting on a tip-off, the MIW team raided the office premises of the call center at Banjara Hills Road No. 12 and found that a team of women employed by one P V Veerabhadra Rao was calling public to ‘inform’ them about ‘gold’ lotteries they had won.
When the police questioned the employees about the functioning of the call center, the women employees told police that they have been collecting the mobile numbers of people through Quikr, Olx and other websites, calling them up and telling them that they had won gold jewelry in a lottery and they could claim the same by just paying the postal charges in the range of Rs 300 and Rs 600 to receive jewelry.
“If any person pays money, they send artificial jewelry or other items brought at Charminar. The fake call center is running for the past two years. The employees were also set a target to talk to a minimum of 500 persons and convince at least 100 persons to send the money,” said a senior police officer. The accused Veerabhadra Rao has been taken into custody and will be produced in the Court most likely on Thursday.
