Hyderabad: As many as five engineering students from Hyderabad were arrested and remanded in a case of drug peddling in city on Friday. The news came to light only late on Saturday night. On a tip-off, the West Zone Task Force police led by inspector L Rajavenkat Reddy, nabbed five students from Ganapthi Complex in Yellareddyguda on Friday night, when they were about to settle a ‘deal’.

The accused were identified as Vedant, Nikhil, Manish, Vamsi Sai Krishna and Sai Kalyan, all engineering students, aged about 21 years. They hail from Yellareddyguda, Banjara Hills and Kundanbagh areas in Hyderabad. On thorough questioning, the police found that, in 2015, the accused had been to Goa on a trip and met Rahul, a waiter at a pub in Goa.

Rahul had helped them to get LSDs during their stay. In their recent trip, the youngsters met Rahul again for LSDs. He suggested them to purchase drugs in higher quantities and sell them in Hyderabad for higher prices. After they made a deal, Rahul has come to Hyderabad and learned about the drug culture here, sources said.

The Task Force police have received a tip-off and kept a close vigil on the students and nabbed them, said sources adding that about 80 LSDs have been recovered from them. The accused were handed over to City Anti-Narcotics Cell, who booked them under NDPS Act and sent to judicial remand. The police are likely to take the custody of five accused for further investigation in the case, said sources.
