A 27-year-old man strangulated his lover to death and dumped her body into a Musi canal. Yashwanth Goud, a tax consultant met Janaki, who was working as a data entry operator at Employees' Provident Fund office at Barkatpura through Facebook. While the two formed a relationship, things took a different turn when the Yashwanth started maintaining distance from Janaki.

Police informed that Yashwanth avoided Janaki since she started asking him about marriage and even deactivated his Facebook account but she insisted on marriage and threatened to approach police if he didn't marry her.

However, Yashwanth called Janaki to his place at Bandlaguda on May 17 to talk about marriage and the victim informed the family that she is going to the office. The police officials stated that Yashwanth had killed Janaki and packed her body in a gunny bag, later dumping it in the Musi nala.

Janaki parents filed a missing report on May 20. The police traced out Yashwanth based on the call data records of the victim. The accused confessed to killing her upon interrogation and a case has been filed against him under section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
