Hyderabad: The Task Force Police of Hyderabad on Sunday busted two hi-tech cricket betting gangs in city and arrested four persons. The police recovered about Rs 20 lakh in cash, 126 mobile phones, three laptops and other computer peripherals like multi-line caller systems to communicate with their sub-bookies and punters.

On a tip-off, the south zone and east zone task force sleuths raided two houses at Punjagutta and Mangalhat and arrested two persons from each place when they were accepting money on the IPL 2016 final match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Addressing a press conference at the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate headquarters here on Monday, Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Anjani Kumar said the arrested persons P Srinivasa Pandu Ranga Satya Soma Raju and V Vinod Kumar at Punjagutta, and Rajesh Agarwal and Pawan Gupta at Mangalhat, were acting as main bookies in organising the betting racket by accepting money.

The officer said both the gangs followed similar modus operandi. They used advanced technology to communicate with the sub-bookies and punters in fixing the betting ratios and had setup a hi-tech hub to run the racket. “They used multi-line-boxes connected with mobile phones. With these, communicating with several persons at one time is easier.

They also recorded all the calls to avoid future disputes with the punters and sub-bookies,” he said. He further said that six more persons are absconding and after their apprehension the police would probe further.
