The Task Force police said the accused, identified as D Vinod Kumar Reddy alias Suresh Kumar Reddy (33), tea vendor at Nampally Railway Station had migrated to city from Anantapur in 2004. Since then, he was involved in mobile thefts and was arrested by the city police several times. On releasing from jail in 2014, he came to the city and opened a tea stall at Nampally railway station. He then hatched a plan to steal cameras from photographers and videographers to earn more money.

In some instances, he joined as helper in photo studios and after three to four days in the absence of the owners, he had stolen cameras and other apparatus from the studios, the police explained the modus operandi of the accused.

“Vinod used to post advertisements online seeking photographers and videographers for outdoor events. When he was contacted by a photographer or videographer, he used to take them to Yadagirigutta, Charminar, Ravindra Bharti or to remote areas.

Vinod asked them to get fresh and when they entered washrooms, he used to flee with the cameras. He had stolen 10 cameras in four months,” said Task Force police.
