Shadnagar/ Hyderabad: Notorious gangster and former Maoist Mohammed Nayeemuddin was killed in an exchange of fire with Telangana police at Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district. Police recovered an AK-47, one pistol and a car from his possession and detained three persons from the spot.

The 45-year-old, Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem alias Balanna, is an accused in several cases of murder, killings for gain, extortion and kidnapping for 20 years. Nayeem was also accused of killing DIG KS Vyas in 1993 at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

A case was registered in Dichpally police station on July 16, where complainant Gangadhar stated that an unknown person had called him repeatedly demanding Rs 1 crore and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the money.

Basing on the complaint, Dichpally inspector V Thirupathi and his team on Monday went to Shadnagar after tracing the mobile number of the accused. When the police team approached the spot, the armed group opened fire at police and an exchange of fire ensued between police and the gang. One person was killed in the exchange of fire, said Mahbubnagar Superintendent of Police Rema Rajeshwari.

Speaking to The Hans India, Rema Rajeshwari said, “Today (Monday), in the morning, there was an exchange of fire between police and suspected armed group indulging in extortions, kidnappings, land grabbing near Millennium Colony in Shadnagar. In the exchange of fire, one person Nayeemuddin died. A car (AP 28 DR 5859), an AK-47 was seized from the deceased and a pistol was recovered from the car.”

The SP said that an event was scheduled at the house of one Basha of Guntur, where a group of women were also present to take part. The armed gang went to the house in a car and the police party also followed them based on the inputs. Before the gang entered the house, the firing took place, she said.

“Four women were taken into custody, and search is on to nab the driver of the vehicle, who also opened fire at the police. Further investigation in the case is on,” the SP told The Hans India. The deceased person has been identified as Mohammad Nayeemuddin (45), a native of Bhongir of Nalgonda district.

His body was sent to Shadnagar government hospital for post-mortem and later to his native place, the SP said. Further, the SP also said that the deceased and his gang members had indulged in grabbing of lands, extortions and kidnappings, which have not been reported to police.
