Hyderabad: A first year student of Fine Arts at University of Hyderabad, N Praveen Kumar, committed suicide in his hostel room on Saturday. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room at 4 am by fellow students.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at the campus after administering oxygen sent him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors.

Praveen belongs to middle-class OBC family. His father N Narasimhulu is an employee of BSNL and lives in Jawaharnagar colony in Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district.

The family members said that they were at a loss to know why Praveen committed suicide. His brother Naveen said that Praveen did not discuss any problems with him when he last spoke to him on Thursday evening. He said that they had no financial problems.

“He did not discuss or tell me anything about what was in his mind,’’ Naveen said. The police recovered two notebooks, one laptop and two cellphones from his room.

According to DCP, in one of the notebooks, Praveen wrote on September 9 about his state of mind. “Why am I unable to study well? Why am I so scared of everything?

Why am I unable to mingle with anyone? When I went to the department today morning, one student came and greeted me but I could not acknowledge properly, why am I like this? I have to study well and do something otherwise there is no meaning to my life.

Why am I always unhappy? Why do I have this feeling that I am a lonely person?’’ wrote Praveen. The body was later shifted to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy and was handed over to his parents.

Praveen’s father, who was in deep shock, said that this son was brave and intelligent. He demanded an in-depth inquiry into the death.

Meanwhile, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) condoled the death of Praveen during a meeting held in the evening.

Expressing his concern over the continuous suicides of students at UoH, former Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao said the Union government should to take measures to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
