​Hyderabad: Two persons working at SM Labs located in Moula Ali Industrial Area died early on Thursday morning after inhaling gas that leaked from a reactor.The deceased were identified as Dheeraj Mehta (22) of West Bengal and Vijay Kumar Ram (28) of Bihar. There were 30 employees working in the lab when the gas leaked.

Around 12.15 am, some poisonous gas leaked from a reactor. Dheeraj and Vijay Kumar, who were working near the reactor were affected by the gas immediately and fell sick instantly. Other workers also complained of suffocation. Following this, the night shift in-charge rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment and then to Gandhi Hospital, where Dheeraj and Vijay Kumar died while undergoing treatment.

Reacting to the incident, SM Labs owner Manikya Reddy said that the gas leakage was accidental and unfortunate. The company has been in operation since 2000. He said all safety measures were in place and that the company had all necessary permissions. A night shift in-charge was present when the incident occurred. “We will provide all the necessary help to the families of the deceased workers,” said Manikya Reddy.The Malkajgiri police booked a case and handed over the bodies of the deceased to their families after autopsy at Gandhi Hospital.
