Kurnool (Govardhana Giri): A 60-year-old man was arrested by the Veldurthy police on the charges of attempt to rape a minor girl here at Govardhana Giri village on Thursday. Sub-inspector of Veldurthy P T N Prasad speaking to this correspondent said that Yellaiah, a resident of Govardhana Giri, is a fruit vendor.The seven-year-old girl has lost her mother and father at an early age and was staying with her maternal uncle. Yellaiah lured the girl on the pretext of giving custard apples and took her to his house.

However, Yellaiah managed to fled the spot. Later, the maternal uncle of the gril went to the police station and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, a man-hunt was launched and the accused was nabbed, said sub-inspector Prasad. Yellaiah was booked under Nirbhaya Act, he added.
