Visakhapatnam: Head cashier of Bank of India branch at Maharanipet was taken into custody on Friday following a complaint lodged by the bank authorities. The bank authorities alleged that Sai Suresh exchanged Rs 30 lakh in liquid cash for Rs 500 notes printed before 2005 with some unidentified persons.According to police, manager Tenneti Srinivasa Rao and others noticed cash shortage, suspected a foul play and immediately lodged a complaint on Thursday.

Maharanipet inspector Govinda Rao informed that the head cashier, who has been working in the bank branch since 2013, was lured by a team that he would be given commission, if he exchanges currency notes of Rs 500 that were printed before 2005.  It may be recalled that the Reserve Bank of India has banned the circulation of Rs 500 currency notes printed before 2005 after offering sufficient time to the public. When asked about the efforts to trace the main culprits in the case, police said that they came to know that a man identified as Prasad has prompted the head cashier to indulge in the fraud and investigation is on.
