Girl commits suicide, demanding Gattuppal mandal

Nalgonda: A girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze demanding Gattuppal to be made as a mandal.Agitatons were going on in Gattuppal village of Chandoor mandal in the district at the last minute dropping of the village in the new mandals’ list. The villagers launched relay hunger strike and 21-year-old Budige Soni has been participating in the hunger strike since four days. On Friday, a delegation from the village met the local MLA, K Prabhakar Reddy and appealed him to use his office at the government to materialise their demand. After coming back, the members of the delegation informed the protestors that the MLA made it clear that there were no chances of making Gattuppal as a mandal now.

Taking it as an advantage, the police have removed the tent of relay hunger strike in the village.
Amid tight security, the police shifted the body to district hospital at Nalgonda for postmortem. Additional Joint Collector S Venkat Rao has visited the hospital and inquired about the incident. Superintendent of Police N Prakash Reddy has rushed to the village and monitoring the situation. About 100 policemen were deployed in the village to avert any untoward incident, which is stated to be the most sensitive village in the district.
Police personnel were deployed at Nalgonda government hospital also where the girl’s body was brought for postmortem. The policemen armed with teargas shells were pressed into service at the hospital as a precautionary. Two days ago, a youth called Yadaiah also made a suicide bid for the same cause and undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.
