Nalgonda: A medico, who was reportedly unhappy over being made to stand in the last row during an Anatomy class, committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of his apartment in Nalgonda town on Monday midnight.

A first-year student of Osmania Medical College (Hyderabad), Yanala Sai Kumar Reddy (19), a native of Nalgonda, jumped from the balcony of their flat on the fifth floor of Sri Lakshmi Sai Apartment on Bus Stand Road.

Sai Kumar, younger son of Yanala Prabhakar Reddy, Correspondent of Mamatha High School and also the State Associate Secretary of Telangana Recognised Schools Management Association (TRSMA), got admission into MBBS course in Osmania Medical College by securing 167 rank in the Eamcet.

He had been attending the classes for the last 15 days and was staying in college hostel.
He came home on Saturday. When his father returned home after completing his work, at around 11.30 pm on Monday, Sai Kumar had told him that he was unable to adjust in the college atmosphere and suddenly ran towards balcony saying that he was going to commit suicide.

His family members tried to catch him, but in vain. He had suffered grievous head injuries. Family members soon rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Mani Kumar Reddy, brother of the deceased, informed that his brother was unable to adjust in the college and was forced to stand in last row during Anatomy practical classes due to his height and he was unable to understand the subject.

“We tried to convince Sai saying that we would take up the matter with the faculty and try to solve it. He has also assured to go back to college on Tuesday, but suddenly took the extreme step,” he told.

“Sai Kumar joined Osmania Medical College with lot of expectations, but the condition prevailed in the college might have disappointed him,” said Yanala Karunakar Reddy, deceased’s uncle.

According to a neighbour, Sai Kumar was a very sensitive person and his parents have locked the balcony of their flat with grills fearing that he might resort to extreme step, if he had failed to secure good rank in Eamcet. After his son secured good rank and an MBBS seat in Osmania Medical College, the parents opened the lock of balcony gates.

Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, TRS Nalgonda Constituency in-charge Dubbaka Narsimha Reddy, TDP Nalgonda constituency in-charge Kancharla Bhupal Reddy and leaders of several organisations visited the government hospital where the post-mortem was conducted and consoled the members of bereaved family. Nalgonda Town-II police registered a case and took up the investigation.
