Nizamabad: The followers of the late renegade Maoist turned gangster Mohammad Nayeemuddin have become a nuisance in the district terrorizing people. Although the police gunned Nayeemuddin down in August last year, his followers have become a menace.
Recently, a person who claimed to be the brother-in-law of Nayeemuddin started harassing three people living in Srikonda mandal demanding Rs 30 lakh as ransom from them. He threatened them that they would be killed and their friends and relatives would be kidnapped if they fail to cough up the amount. He said that he fully knew about their whereabouts.
Similarly, two others, who were quite rich, hailing from Dharpalli were also threatened in the same manner. All the five victims lodged a complaint with the police. Also an LIC agent in Sirikonda mandal and a businessman living in Kondur village who owned a tractor showroom was threatened for money.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, the victim said that the businessman was getting threatening calls from the mobile number 9177578419 and 7036298784 on September 26, October 1, October 26and again on December 16.
Nayemudin’s brother-in-law threatened them that their children would be killed if the ransom of Rs 30 lakh was not paid. He used to call up during midnight and threatened them, they lamented. The victims said that they lodged a complaint with the Police Commissioner Kartikeya last October itself and also suspected the he was making the threatening phone calls at the behest of a Congress leader from the district. They suspected that the Congress leader might be behind these phone calls.
The victim said that the Congress leader was trying to use his political clout and influence the case. He said that the Congress leader was interrogated and left off. When contacted, Police Commissioner Kartikeya said that a case has been lodged and investigation was in progress. He said that the police took up the case as a challenge and surveillance was increased.
