Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Wednesday invoked PD Act against notorious criminal Ayub Khan. The detention order was served to him at the Central prison, Chanchalguda, where he has been lodged.

He was recently detained by the immigration authorities at the Mumbai airport on arrival from Sharjah following a look out circular issued by the city police.

Ayub ventured into the crimes at an early age of 16 and is accused in 68 criminal cases - 13 murders, eight attempt to murders, four cases of TADA Act, 13 cases of Arms Act, one case of illicit liquor, two dacoity and two robbery cases and 25 others cases - reported in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates, a release issued by the city police said. He was convicted in two cases, while two are pending trial and eight cases are under investigation, the release said.

The notorious criminal secured passport by furnishing false details and bribing some government officials. With the help of the passport, Ayub fled the country in 2014 after he was released from prison.

While hiding in Sharjah, Ayub smuggled gold into India to make easy money, the release said. Now that the PD Act has been invoked against him, police officials hope that his victims will come forward to lodge complaints and depose against him before the courts of law.
