Hyderabad: Unable to repay the loan for his car, a cab driver committed suicide in Begumpet police station limits, the police said on Sunday.

According to the police, Kondaiah alias Praveen, 33, a resident of Krishna Nagar, near Rasoolpura in Begumpet brought a car and registered with Uber cab service, a few months ago.

He owned the vehicle after paying Rs 30,000 as down payment. However, he was unable to repay the loan owing to losses during the last three months, following demonetisation.

On Saturday night, he consumed some poison and was rushed to the Gandhi Hospital for treatment. While undergoing treatment on Sunday, he succumbed.

The police registered a case of suicide based on the complaint lodged by his wife Kavitha and sent his body for post-mortem.
