Hanamkonda: A pall of gloom descended on Vangapahad village on the outskirts of the city on Sunday with the news of homicide of a youngster from the village, Mamidala Vamshi Reddy, in the US, reached here.
The youth aged about 27 years was said to be shot dead by a miscreant on Friday inside the parking garage of an apartment building at 10:45 pm local time in Milpitas City of Santa Clara County in California, USA.
On receiving the news from Vamshi Reddy’s friends and the US police, his parents Sanjeeva Reddy and Rama Devi and their family members were deeply traumatised as they were expecting him home in the next few days.
“He used to be in touch with us regularly and called me on Friday. He was worried over lack of job opportunities with the change of power in US. We asked him to come back to India.
He said he would be coming home in four days,” a wailing Sanjeeva Reddy said, while recalling the conversation he had with his son on the day he met with his death.
According to Vamshi Reddy’s family friends A Rakesh Reddy and Raghupathi Reddy, his parents were looking for suitable matches to arrange his marriage next year. “He is an affectionate person and it is sad to know that his life ended in such a tragic way,” they grieved.
Vamshi Reddy, who completed his B Tech at Vathsalya Institute of Science and Technology at Bhongir in 2014, left for the US in 2015 to pursue MS. On completing his MS degree recently from Silicon Valley University, he was engaged in part-time job at a departmental store to make his ends meet.
Large number of villagers joined the parents in their mourning while Kazipet ACP B Janardhan visited the bereaved family and consoled them.
Deputy Chief Minister Srihari who expressed shock at the death of Vamshi said State government would initiate process to bring back body of the deceased at the earliest.
