In a shameful act, a woman killed her 13-day-old granddaughter by throwing the baby into a well to get rid of her as she was vexed with baby girls taking birth in her daughter’s family.
Paleru: In a shameful act, a woman killed her 13-day-old granddaughter by throwing the baby into a well to get rid of her as she was vexed with baby girls taking birth in her daughter’s family.
During a press meet on Wednesday, Khammam DSP Suresh Kumar said the woman, Tolla Vasanta, was found culprit in the missing baby case that was registered with the Nelakondapalli police on February 26. The police searched for the baby everywhere but in vain. However, neighbours found the baby’s body floating in the well on February 28 and complained it to the police.
On a tip off, Kusumanchi circle inspector Kiran Kumar and sub-inspector Suman went to the village and investigated the case. They found out that no new person had visited the village in the recent past.
With the girl’s mother, Aparna and the grandmother giving bizarre replies during questioning, the police suspected something fishy and interrogated them.
Vasanta, who has no male offspring, spilled the beans and admitted to committing the murder as she was vexed with her daughter also giving birth to a baby girl. The DSP said a case under Section 302 of the IPC was filed against her and she would be presented in court.
