Hyderabad: In an appalling case, Alwal police tried to keep an incident related to a love affair between two minors which led to the girl delivering a baby one month ago under wraps, even after the hospital officials sent the required information to the police referring it as a medico legal case.

According to the information, the boy aged 17 and girl aged 16 years, residents of Alwal, were in love for the past two years. The girl became pregnant and delivered the baby at Gandhi Hospital on February 15, 2017.

The hospital staff sent information to the police treating it as medico legal case. However, police did not act, allegedly because the boy’s family was politically influential. The family negotiated with the girl’s family on the pretext that their marriage would be performed soon after the boy and girl attain the marriageable age, sources said.

President of Balala Hakkula Sangham, Achyuta Rao, said that even the Women and Child Welfare Committee did not come to rescue the newborn and the minor mother. Instead, the minor mother and the infant were in the illegal custody of a woman named Shanti, who is not related to them.

He demanded an in-depth enquiry into the inaction on the part of the police and Women and Child Welfare Department officials, besides the immediate rescue and rehabilitation of the minor girl and the infant.

Meanwhile, Alwal police registered case on Wednesday following allegations of suppression of the issue in collusion with the family of the boy. Alwal Police Inspector, Anand Reddy, said a case of rape has been registered against the boy and investigation is underway.
