Techie held for threatening bank staff with knife

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Kotak Mahindra Bank in Gopalapuram after a techie entered the bank holding a knife threatening to kill himself on Monday.

The man, later identified as Ashwin, entered the bank during Monday afternoon holding a knife and screamed to kill himself. It was alleged that the man threatened the bank officials with killing if they came in his way, police said.

However, police quickly arrived at the bank responding immediately to a call by one of the bank officials and overpowered the knife-wielding man. He was taken to police station for enquiry, police said.

On questioning, it came to light that Ashwin’s wife works in that specific bank and the couple has some differences.

It appears the techie resorted to the step apparently because of depression. A case was registered against him and further investigation is on, police said.
