Seven members of a gang involved in series of automobile thefts had been arrested by the Shamshabad police. Stolen vehicles, dismantled material and other equipment worth Rs 1.5 crore was seized at the instance of the accused. 

​Hyderabad: Seven members of a gang involved in series of automobile thefts had been arrested by the Shamshabad police. Stolen vehicles, dismantled material and other equipment worth Rs 1.5 crore was seized at the instance of the accused.

According to the police, the gang leader Mohammed Abdul Raheem aka Hassan of Hyderabad was operating the gang comprising drivers and mechanics. The members would steal lorries and container carriers from different States and bring them to the dismantling unit run by Hassan at Thontupally village in Shamshabad police station limits.

The stolen vehicles would then be dismantled using gas cutters and other equipment. While the engines and other valuable parts were sent out of Telangana for disposal, other parts were sold to scrap dealers, police said.

Several other persons including scrap dealers, mechanics and drivers were involved in the racket. Teams had been dispatched to nab the absconding accused including gang leader Hassan, police said.
