​Hyderabad: Cyber crime sleuths on Wednesday arrested a consultant for allegedly cheating gullible people with fake promises of providing H-1B Visa.

The accused identified as Y Gopi was arrested from Dammaiguda. Police said the complainant B Vinod Kumar, of Khairatabad, contacted the accused over phone a few weeks ago for H-1B visa processing.

The accused demanded Rs 2 lakh as advance and the same was transferred to his account by the complainant.

Soon after receiving the money, the accused switched off his mobile phone. Realising that he has been cheated, the victim lodged a complaint. Based on the mobile number and bank account details, police traced Gopi and nabbed him at Dammaiguda.

The accused told the police that he was acting on the instructions of his friend Karthik of Warangal, presently living in USA.

He also told police that he had transferred Rs 1 lakh to the account of one Rajender of Chandigarh towards Karthik’s share. Based on the disclosure made by the accused, police have launched efforts to arrest Karthik and Rajender.
