Hyderabad: Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police, on Friday, arrested a conman who had been cheating gullible people by posting fake advertisements online offering to sell cars.

The arrested is identified as Tadi Rajesh, resident of Balanagar and native of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Police recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash from his possession.

According to the police, the accused impersonating as Srinivas, posted an advertisement on OLX on April 18 offering to sell Toyota car.

In response, the complainant Shaik Mohammed Ismail approached him. After three rounds of negotiations, the deal was finalised for Rs 5 lakh. Accordingly, Ismail paid Rs 5 lakh on April 20 and completed the documentation work at SR Nagar Cross Roads.

Later, the conman requested Ismail to drop him near his house in Balanagar. When they reached Balkampet, the conman asked Ismail to drive the car.

Even as the unsuspecting Ismail got down from the car to take the driving seat, the conman drove away, police said. Ismail immediately lodged a complaint with the police.
