Devarapalli police seized one tonne of ganja from an Eicher van and arrested seven persons on national highway at Devarapalli village in West Godavari district on Friday morning. 

Eluru: Devarapalli police seized one tonne of ganja from an Eicher van and arrested seven persons on national highway at Devarapalli village in West Godavari district on Friday morning.

The ganja was being smuggled to Hyderabad. The value of the seized weed is estimated at Rs 10 crore in international market.

Kovvur DSP Nunna Muralikrishna told reporters at Devarapalli police station that Kovvuru CI Sarath Raj Kumar, on receiving a tip-off that 500 kg ganja was being transported in an Eicher van (AP05X6130) covered with mangoes began vehicle checking at Devarapalli check-post.

At around 5 am, Eicher van and a white Toyota reached the check-post. On seeing police, Eicher van driver while trying to escape hit an electric pole. Police arrested Md Riyaz Khan Akbar (Rajamahendravaram), N Nukaraju ( Narsipatnam), Aiti Satyanarayana of Visakhapatnam.

Police who stopped the Toyota car arrested four more persons, Abdullah Khan, Satnam district, Maharashtra, Vishal Shinde, Anil Mann, Baba Saheb Mastan all from Maharasthra.
