Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against two officials of the PQIS (Plant Quarantine Information System) for demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000 to conduct inspection and issue phytosanitary certification for a manufacturer.

One of the officials, who was arrested on Thursday, was produced before the designated court and sent to judicial custody on Friday.

According to officials, the complainant approached the PQIS officers of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, located at Shamshabad, for phytosanitary certificate for export of samples of instant tea cups with the brand name 'Mytea'.

However, the PQIS officials - Atul Thakrey and Manoj demanded Rs 30,000 bribe for processing the application. The complainant requested the officials to cancel the application since he had no money to pay the bribe, CBI officials said.

Then the PQIS officials demanded the complainant to pay whatever he can. The complainant said he can pay only Rs 4,000 for which they agreed and asked him to pay the bribe on Thursday.

Since the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the CBI. Acting on the complaint, the CBI arrested Manoj while receiving the bribe and efforts are on to arrest Atul Thakrey, officials said.
