Cop cheats woman, attempts suicide
A police constable serving in Medak rural police station attempted suicide on Tuesday by consuming sleeping pills, when the parents of a girl he had promised to marry confronted him after the constable got engaged to another woman recently.

Constable Pratap and the victim, a resident of Mambojipally village in Medak mandal, got introduced three years ago, when she was taking TTC coaching in Sangareddy.
They have been in love since then as Pratap promised that he would marry the girl who is now 21 years old. As the girl belonged to a different caste and because her family could not afford to give dowry demanded by him, he allegedly refused to marry her.
On Sunday last, he got engaged to another girl. The parents of the girl and the village sarpanch, who came to know of his plans to get married, called Pratap to meet them at a college in Medak town. When they started questioning him about the injustice he was doing to their daughter, the constable consumed sleeping pills.
He was immediately rushed to the Medak Government Area Hospital. The parents of the girl lodged a complaint with Medak SP Chandana Deepti. She assured them that justice would be served after an inquiry on the matter.
Meanwhile, the constable who is recovering at the hospital is planning to lodge a complaint against the girl's parents for assaulting him when he went to meet them, said our sources.
