Hyderabad: The city police on Monday arrested a moneylender for allegedly kidnapping a woman after her husband failed to repay the money he had borrowed from the moneylender.

According to the Amberpet police, the accused, Srinivas, had given a loan of Rs 4 lakh to his relative, whose name is also Srinivas. The borrower lives at Amberpet while the moneylender lives in Secunderabad.

On Monday evening, the moneylender went to the house of Srinivas along with two other persons demanding repayment of the money he had given as loan. However, the borrower was not at home.

His wife Nagamani informed the moneylender that her husband was out of town and requested him to come back a couple of days later, the police said.

However, the moneylender forced the woman to board the car saying that her husband was constantly postponing repayment of the loan due to which he was fed up.

He allegedly told the woman that her husband would repay the money only if he felt the pinch and abducted the woman, the police said.

The woman’s son came to know about the incident from neighbours and lodged a complaint with the police. Immediately, the police collected CCTV footages from the area and identified the registration number of the car in which the woman was taken away. Within a few hours, the car was traced and the woman was rescued.
