Hyderabad: The city police arrested six members of a gang that had created a pirated version of the blockbuster movie Baahubali-The Conclusion and demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh for not releasing it.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rahul Mehta, Jitender Kumar Mehta, Tauffiq, Mohammed Ali – all four from Delhi and Divakar Kumar, Chandan – both from Bihar. One more accused Ankit Kumar from Bihar was absconding, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, Avinash Kumar Mohanty said Rahul Mehta first approached the filmmakers over phone pretending to be a representative of anti-piracy agency on the very first day of the release of the movie last month.

Rahul sent a sample video of the HD quality pirated version of the blockbuster movie and told the filmmakers that some persons approached him with an intention to strike a deal for not releasing the pirated version into the market. He informed the filmmakers that the pirates were demanding Rs 15 lakh as ransom, the DCP said.

One of the filmmakers from Arka Media Works Entertainment, Prasad Devineni, lodged a complaint with the cyber crime cell of the city police on April 29 saying that a gang of pirates was blackmailing and demanding ransom for not releasing the pirated version of Baahubali – The Conclusion.

After thorough investigation, the police nabbed Rahul in Jubilee Hills. Incriminating material such as laptop, hard disks, tabs, HDMI video capture, HDMI to RCA converter along with accessories were recovered from him.
