Warangal: Alleged dowry harassment has led to self-immolation by a married woman along with her two daughters during early hours of Monday at Thimmapur in Khila Warangal.

In the incident, the woman called Bhuma Bhavani (25) and her 15-month-old daughter Lalitha Varshini died. Her three-year-old elder daughter Amrutha Varshini suffered minor burns and was being treated at MGM Hospital here.

According to the locals and relatives of the deceased woman, the harassment of her husband Shiva Shankar, a mason worker and in-laws compelled her to commit suicide. According to the police, a quarrel took place between wife and husband on Sunday night.

After the verbal fight with his wife, Shiva Shanker reportedly left the house and was still absconding. At around 5 am, the locals heard screams of Bhavani and went inside the house. As they found the children and their mother on fire, they doused the fire and rushed them to MGMH.

Bhavani’s relative Sandhya alleged that since the couple’s marriage four years ago, the husband and his family members used to harass Bhavani for additional dowry.

With the birth of second daughter, pestering for dowry intensified and that led to frequent fights between the wife and husband, she said.

Based on the complaint of Bhavani’s parents, a case has been registered at Mamnoor police station based, police said.
